WASNJ|Welcomes Philip Davis for Creative Writing Workshops
Last week, Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing had the pleasure of hosting Philip Davis, founder of the UK-based creative writing organisation Write Inspired. Davis conducted a series of innovative workshops for students across all age groups, from Kindergarten to Upper School. His dynamic teaching methods brought a fresh perspective to writing, offering an exceptional learning experience tailored to each age group.
Davis introduced a range of creative exercises designed to engage and inspire students. A standout was the “Roll and Write” activity, where students rolled dice to generate random words, sounds, or concepts, which served as springboards for their poetry or storytelling. This element of unpredictability made writing more exciting and encouraged students to explore connections they might not otherwise consider. Another highlight was the “Awareness” exercise, where students were given a simple cotton thread to observe and shape into forms. They used these shapes to imagine new ideas, demonstrating how ordinary objects can inspire extraordinary creativity.
