Campus Facilities
Located in Tangshan, Jiangning District, Nanjing, Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing is about 20 km east of the downtown area and adjacent to the picturesque Tangshan Hot Spring Resort, covering an area of 20 acres. The school is designed with a mixture of Eastern and Western styles and has state-of-the-art facilities to supplement our exceptional teaching quality.
Blending Chinese and Western Culture
Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing aims to foster students who are both deeply rooted in their culture and have a global vision. This is also demonstrated in the campus design.
Most of our school buildings are built with red bricks and beige limestone, a common feature of Western schools. The campus’s main teaching buildings have a square courtyard decorated with Western-style colonnades. Buildings are connected via corridors, with the tower, the tallest building on campus, at the centre.
The Chinese Cultural Centre, opposite the tower, the central part of which is the Qiukou ancestral temple, is transplanted from Shangrao, Jiangxi Province. It is the perfect venue for Chinese painting and calligraphy lessons, as well as traditional tea ceremonies and other traditional cultural activities. The school has also set up three cultural activities studios to enhance our students’ cultural education. The multi-functional classrooms next to the temple can be used for group activities, exhibitions and lectures.
A Comfortable Teaching Environment
Each Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing classroom is equipped with a traditional whiteboard and an electronic interactive screen. The classroom lighting system has also been carefully designed by top professionals, ensuring that students can see clearly without harm to their eyesight.
Reading is an essential aspect of students’ learning in Wycombe Abbey schools. The school library offers books in Chinese, English, and other languages. Primary and Secondary School students have separate libraries, both of which are of double-deck design, with upstairs for individual reading and downstairs for lessons and group work.
Encouraging Students to Try Everything
Holistic education is at the heart of Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing’s educational philosophy. We are committed to nurturing academic excellence while fostering personalised exploration and helping children transform their interests into passions. By pushing the boundaries of potential in areas such as science, arts, fine arts, music, and sports, we aim to offer a well-rounded development. Accordingly, the school’s STEAM and Sports Centres’ designs are central to our campus’ architectural plan.
The STEM centre in WAS Nanjing includes laboratories, a Design Centre, and a Music and Art Centre. Students can conduct various experiments in the laboratories, practice their craftsmanship in the Design Centre, or participate in multiple performances in the Music and Art Centre.
At the same time, we also provide our students with the best possible sports facilities. The sports stadium has a 25-meter swimming pool with eight lanes, meeting FINA standards. It also has professional diving towers and starting platforms. Full-size basketball courts, as well as rock-climbing walls, are also available inside the campus.
Our school hopes that children, when they have the most time and opportunity to explore, are not simply buried in desk work but encouraged to explore endless possibilities. What the school can do is provide the necessary resources and infrastructure to turn every possibility into reality.
Making Students Feel at Home
The school provides accommodation for 1,028 boarders from grade 1 to grade 12. As students move into the higher grades, more will choose to board. Dormitories for Grade 1-5 students are equipped with single beds rather than bunks to ensure greater safety. Each room can accommodate four students and has two private bathrooms.
Dormitories for Grade 6 students are equipped with desks and bunk beds. However, the traditional ladder design for the bunks has been replaced by staircase steps to ensure greater safety.
For boarding students entering the Secondary School, two students live together in one room rather than four.
