Academic Curriculum
A 16-year Educational Through-train
Our 16-year education system from toddler to sixth form supports children’s systematic and rapid development. Based on children’s physical and mental development needs at different stages of learning, our curriculum content and goals are appropriately focused, thereby creating a gradual and multi-layered learning experience rooted in the security of a familiar campus environment and stable social relationships.
Toddler & Kindergarten
A high degree of interactive play and creativity stimulates students’ natural curiosity and desire to explore.
Our kindergarten courses are based on the internationally recognised “Guidelines for the Learning and Development of Children Aged 3-6” from the “EYFS” (Early Years Foundation Stage British Curriculum for 3-6 years). We have designed a theme-based bilingual curriculum which covers the seven main areas of childhood development. We believe every child should receive a stimulating all-round education; since Kindergarten education exerts such a powerful influence on a child’s future learning, we must encourage children to learn through lively activities that highlight interactive play and creativity and enable them to experience the joy of learning.
Education Objectives of Kindergarten: -Knowledge and understanding of the world -Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy -Communication, language and literacy -Personal, social and emotional development -Creative development -Physical development
Primary School
In the primary school stage, we continue to adhere firmly to the ethos of holistic education while giving students a more structured and traditional teaching environment.
Our students will, naturally, not only master Chinese and gain a great appreciation for Chinese culture but will also master English and appreciate different cultures, thereby broadening their horizons, inspiring them to approach the world with a truly global perspective and develop key skills and knowledge for their future lives. Our students will be assessed regularly, including assessments of their social skills, awareness of health issues and their psychological and academic development. One core assessment focuses on their English language competence, including their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
In addition, we encourage learning through self-discovery and trial and error, group discussion and creativity, which are a central focus of our courses.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular enrichment courses, enabling students to develop their potential in academic study, art, sports and social activities, thereby helping them to lay a solid foundation for future study and life. Our courses include Chinese, English, Maths, Science, Global Issues, Chinese Literature, Computer Science, Music, Art, PE, Moral Education and Individual Health and Safety.
Middle School
In Middle School, we gradually increase the proportion of English immersion courses. We will focus on immersive bilingual teaching, practice-based interdisciplinary learning and other innovative teaching methods, enabling all our students to find a personalised learning pathway with the assistance of their tutors, thereby developing their academic stamina and adaptability and helping them lay a solid foundation for further study in senior high school.
In this process, teachers and tutors will allow them greater freedom, increasing the frequency and flexibility of self-study to develop their capacity for self-regulated learning.
High School
Just as the ocean is the deepest and the most expansive, breadth and depth of learning always go hand in hand, and so is the further education level curriculum at Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing.
We offer globally recognised IGCSE and A Level programmes, complemented by personalised and professional guidance to help students gain access to the world’s best universities.
We encourage every student to take as many IGCSE subjects as possible to build a solid foundation for subject depth in preparation for A Level, while the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at A Level is a compulsory subject for all Wycombe Abbey School Nanjing students. Although complex and challenging, they help students gain a competitive edge in university applications.
In Upper School, we work with our students to establish their preferred direction of progress in IGCSE and A Levels based on their interests, talents and ambitions for the future. We encourage them to make well-thought-out and planned selections of subjects, essential to progressing to the next stage of education.
Whether their choice is mainstream or niche, we provide the resources to ensure that students achieve their maximum potential.
